The NBA Scoop

One thing is for sure and that is this: 24 hour sports fans were dismayed by a recent statement made by Billy Hunter, the Players Association executive director. Hunter recently shared that he believed the entire 2011-12 NBA season is likely to be canceled altogether due to an inability to negotiate. How certain is Hunter? Well, he did say that he would bet on it at an American Bar Association conference, so chances are he isn’t joking around. Apparently the players and the owners are around $800 million per year apart and so far no bargaining point has been found that can bridge the gap.

As recent sports 24 7 headlines have made clear, with the season in jeopardy more and more players are looking to the overseas market in the hopes of playing a full season this coming year. So far the Nets Deron Williams who is signed to Turkey is the only superstar player to sign a deal, but there are increasingly large numbers of players who are making that move. Some players plan to spend their entire season abroad while others, like Jon Leuer who is heading to Germany and and E’Twaun Moore who is heading to Italy, have opt-out clauses in their contracts that allows them to return to the NBA in the event that the lockout ends. Meanwhile, Dirk Nowitzki who is currently gearing up to play for Lithuania in the EuroBasket has stated that while he will look to play abroad in the event of a lockout, he isn’t even going to think about it until after he’s finished with the EuroBasket.
